Description
A fun and creative craft project for kids to celebrate the 4th of July by making colorful paper lanterns.
Ingredients
- Red, white, and blue cardstock (1–2 sheets each)
- White star stickers (or star shapes cut from white paper)
- Patriotic ribbon (for hanging loops and bows)
- White cardstock or small paper plates (for top/bottom circles, approx. 2–3″ diameter)
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Glue or stapler
- Hole punch
Instructions
- Cut 8–12 strips from cardstock for each lantern (1″ wide x 6–8″ long).
- Accordion fold each strip (about ½” folds).
- Add white star stickers to the folded edges.
- Cut two white circles for the top and bottom of each lantern. Punch a hole near the edge of the top circle for hanging.
- Glue or staple one end of each folded strip evenly around the edge of one circle (stars facing out).
- Gather the other ends and attach them evenly to the second circle to create the lantern shape.
- Thread a 10–12″ piece of ribbon through the top hole to create a hanging loop.
- Tie a bow from the same ribbon and attach it at the base of the loop for extra flair.
- Make more lanterns in red, white, and blue for a full patriotic display!
Notes
- Neat folds make the lanterns pop.
- Use patterned ribbons for added charm.
