Description
Indulge in a rich and creamy Black Forest Christmas Trifle featuring layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream, cherries, and vanilla pudding.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (prepared and cooled) or 1 homemade chocolate cake
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups cherries, pitted (canned in syrup or fresh)
- 1/4 cup cherry juice or syrup
- 2 cups vanilla pudding
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Bake the chocolate cake according to package instructions or your preferred homemade method. Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Cut the cooled chocolate cake into approximately 2.5 cm cubes to facilitate layering.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- If using canned cherries, drain and reserve juice. If using fresh cherries, pit and slice as needed. In a small bowl, mix cherries with cherry juice or syrup and allow them to marinate.
- In a trifle dish or individual glasses, arrange a single layer of cake cubes at the base, pressing gently for firmness.
- Spread an even layer of vanilla pudding over the cake base, smoothing the surface with a spoon.
- Spoon a layer of marinated cherries with some juice evenly over the pudding.
- Layer whipped cream over the cherries, smoothing gently with a spatula.
- Continue layering cake cubes, pudding, cherries, and whipped cream until the dish is filled, ensuring the final layer is whipped cream.
- Sprinkle chocolate shavings and cocoa powder over the top layer. Optionally, add a few whole cherries for decoration. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight to set and meld flavors before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use homemade chocolate cake.
- Ensure the whipped cream is thick enough to hold its shape.
- Can be prepared a day in advance for better flavor melding.
