Description

A traditional Italian dish featuring layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and gooey cheese, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef, onion, and garlic; cook until meat is browned.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  6. In a baking dish, layer as follows: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce, then place three noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and sprinkle with Parmesan. Repeat layers, finishing with mozzarella on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.

Notes

Make-ahead tip: Assemble before baking and refrigerate for up to 24 hours or freeze for up to 3 months. Adjust baking time if cooking from frozen.
