Description
Create stunning decorations using DIY Borax crystals with simple materials and steps!
Ingredients
- Borax powder
- Pipe cleaners
- Food coloring (optional)
- Boiling water
- Large glass jar or wide-mouth heat-safe container
- Pencil or chopstick
- String or fishing line
- Measuring cup and spoon
Instructions
- Shape your design: Twist pipe cleaners into shapes (snowflakes, hearts, stars, spirals) small enough to hang in your jar without touching the sides or bottom.
- Tie a string to the pipe cleaner shape and attach the other end to a pencil or chopstick to suspend it.
- Prepare your solution: For each cup of boiling water, add 3 tablespoons of Borax, stirring until fully dissolved to create a supersaturated solution (a few grains at the bottom are okay).
- Optional: Add a few drops of food coloring for colored crystals.
- Suspend the pipe cleaner shape in the solution, ensuring it hangs freely, and rest the pencil across the jar’s top.
- Leave undisturbed for 12–24 hours to allow crystals to form.
- Carefully remove the crystal-covered shape, shake off excess solution, and place on a paper towel to dry completely.
- Your DIY Borax Crystal Craft is ready for window decor, hanging ornaments, or gifting.
Notes
- Adult supervision is required when handling boiling water.
- Ensure the pipe cleaner shape does not touch the sides or bottom of the jar to allow for proper crystal formation.
- Experiment with different shapes and colors for unique designs.
