Description
Create a stunning DIY Flash Flood Rainbow Jar that showcases a beautiful swirling effect of colors and glitter!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear glass jar with lid (a mason jar works perfectly)
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- Food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green—bright colors work best!)
- 1 tbsp glitter (optional for extra sparkle)
- 1 tbsp dish soap (creates swirling effects)
- 1 tsp cornstarch (helps colors stay suspended)
- Funnel (or steady hands for pouring)
- Spoon for mixing
Instructions
- Fill the jar halfway with water.
- Slowly pour vegetable oil on top—it will float above the water since oil is less dense.
- In a small bowl, mix dish soap and cornstarch until smooth.
- Divide the mixture into separate bowls and add different food coloring to each.
- Using a spoon or funnel, gently pour each colored soap mixture into the jar one at a time. Let each layer settle before adding the next for a defined rainbow effect.
- For extra magic, sprinkle glitter on top—it will swirl beautifully when shaken.
- Seal the jar tightly and swirl or shake to create a whirling ‘flash flood’ of colors. Observe as the colors blend and separate in mesmerizing patterns.
Notes
- Ensure the jar has a tight seal to prevent spills.
- The order of colored layers can be changed for different effects.
- Best results with bright food coloring.
