Description
Create mesmerizing lighting fun with DIY Glow Bubble Lamps using simple household ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear glass jar or vase
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- Glow-in-the-dark paint or liquid from 1-2 cracked glow sticks
- 1 tablet of effervescent antacid (like Alka-Seltzer)
- A flashlight or small LED light (optional)
- A few drops of neon food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by pouring the vegetable oil into your clear jar, filling it about halfway.
- Next, slowly add the water until the jar is nearly full, and enjoy the mesmerizing sight of the liquids separating!
- For a magical glow, add 2-3 squeezes of glow-in-the-dark paint and, if you’re feeling adventurous, toss in a drop of neon food coloring.
- If you’re using glow sticks, crack them open and shake well, then carefully pour the liquid into the jar while wearing gloves and eye protection (better safe than sorry!).
- Gently swirl the mixture, but resist the urge to shake it—no one wants a messy glow explosion!
- Break your antacid tablet in half and drop one piece into the jar. Watch as the glowing blobs fizz and float!
- When the bubbling slows down, pop in another piece of the tablet to reignite the excitement.
- For maximum glow, shine a bright light on the glow-in-the-dark paint for 30 seconds before you start your bubbling magic.
Notes
- Experiment with different colors of food coloring to create a variety of glow effects.
- To prolong the glowing effect, recharge the glow-in-the-dark paint or glow stick liquid under a bright light for a few minutes before using it again.
