Description

DIY Glow-in-the-Dark Puffy Paint is a fun and creative craft activity that allows kids to make vibrant artwork that glows in the dark.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup shaving cream
  • 1/2 cup white school glue
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint or glow pigment powder (non-toxic)
  • Neon food coloring or liquid watercolors (variety of colors)
  • Zip-top bags or squeeze bottles
  • Black construction paper

Instructions

  1. Begin by gathering all your ingredients and tools. Make sure your workspace is covered with newspaper or a protective mat to catch any spills.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of shaving cream, 1/2 cup of white school glue, and 1/3 cup of flour.
  3. Gently fold the mixture together with a spatula until it becomes fluffy and smooth. Be careful not to overmix, as you want to keep the air in the mixture.
  4. Once the base mixture is ready, divide it evenly into several small bowls, one for each color you wish to create.
  5. To each bowl, add a few drops of glow-in-the-dark paint or a small scoop of glow pigment powder. Mix thoroughly until fully combined.
  6. Next, add neon food coloring or liquid watercolors to each bowl to create vibrant shades. Stir until the colors are bright and uniform.
  7. After mixing the colors, transfer each colored paint into a zip-top bag. If using squeeze bottles, fill them accordingly. If using bags, snip off the corner of the bag to create a nozzle for easy application.
  8. Once your paint is ready, take the black construction paper and encourage kids to paint their designs using the puffy paint. They can create fun shapes and patterns.
  9. After completing their artwork, leave the paintings to air dry completely for 8–10 hours. This will ensure that the puffy effect stays intact.
  10. For maximum glow, charge the finished art by placing it under a bright light or UV light for a few minutes before turning off the lights to see the glow-in-the-dark effect.

Notes

  • For a smoother application, consider using a small paintbrush or spatula to spread the paint instead of just using the bags or bottles.
  • Experiment with different color combinations and layering techniques to create unique designs that pop when they glow in the dark!
