Description

Create your own DIY Mosquito Repellent Candles with natural ingredients to keep pesky insects away.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup soy wax flakes or beeswax
  • Candle wicks (cotton or wooden)
  • Heat-safe containers (mason jars, small tins, vintage teacups)
  • 2030 drops essential oils (citronella, lemon eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, rosemary)
  • Optional: dried herbs like lavender, lemon balm, rosemary
  • Wick holders or clothespins

Instructions

  1. Melt the Wax: Place the wax flakes into a double boiler, or use a heat-safe bowl over a pan of simmering water. Melt the wax over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it is fully liquefied.
  2. Prepare Containers: While the wax is melting, position your wicks in the center of each jar or container. Secure the wicks using wick holders or by laying clothespins across the rims to keep them straight as you pour.
  3. Add Essential Oils: Remove the melted wax from heat and let it cool slightly until it reaches a temperature of about 130–140°F. Stir in 20–30 drops of your chosen essential oils to create the mosquito-repelling scent.
  4. Pour the Wax: Slowly and carefully pour the scented wax into your prepared containers, ensuring the wick remains centered. Optionally, sprinkle in some dried herbs for added charm and to enhance the scent profile of the candles.
  5. Set & Trim: Allow the candles to cool undisturbed for about 4–6 hours until they are fully hardened. Once the candles have set completely, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch above the wax.

Notes

  • For a stronger repellent effect, experiment with different combinations of essential oils and adjust the amounts based on your preferences.
  • Consider adding a layer of dried herbs on top of the set wax for an aesthetically pleasing finish that also boosts the candle’s natural fragrance.
