Description
Create stunning crystals overnight with this simple DIY craft using common household ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of sugar (or salt)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Clean glass container
- Small pot
- Stirring utensil
- A piece of string (optional for hanging)
Instructions
- Heat Water: In a small pot, heat 1 cup of water until it’s nearly boiling.
- Dissolve Sugar: Stir in 3 tablespoons of sugar (or salt) until fully dissolved to create a saturated solution.
- Add Color: If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution for vibrant crystals.
- Transfer Solution: Carefully pour the solution into a clean glass container, leaving some space at the top.
- Set Up for Crystallization: Optionally, suspend a piece of string in the solution using a pencil as a makeshift hanger. This will help form larger crystals on the string.
- Cover and Let Sit: Loosely cover the container to prevent dust from entering, and place it in a cool, undisturbed area.
- Wait Overnight: Allow the solution to sit undisturbed overnight, observing as crystals begin to form.
Notes
- This craft is safe for kids but should be supervised.
- Experiment with different liquids like salt for different types of crystals.
- Ensure the container is placed where it won’t be disturbed.
