Description

Create a colorful fireworks display in a jar using simple materials and food coloring.

Ingredients

Scale
  • One large clear jar or tall glass
  • Warm water (filled about three-quarters full)
  • 23 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • One small bowl or cup
  • One fork
  • Optional: Black construction paper
  • Optional: A flashlight or lamp

Instructions

  1. Set the Stage: Fill your clear jar about three-quarters full with warm water.
  2. Craft the Color Mixture: In a bowl, pour 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil and add drops of food coloring into the oil.
  3. Gently Stir: Use a fork to gently swirl the mixture to break up large drops into smaller ones.
  4. The Grand Pour: Slowly pour the oil-and-color mixture into the jar of warm water.
  5. Watch the Fireworks Display: Observe the color droplets disperse and create bursts resembling fireworks.

Notes

  • Using multiple colors enhances the visual effect.
  • Black construction paper improves contrast for better visibility.
  • Lighting the jar with a flashlight or lamp in a dark room intensifies the display.
