- 2 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 cups neutral oil (vegetable or canola)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the apples by washing and slicing them into rings about 1/4 inch thick. Remove seeds and core.
- Make the batter by combining flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. Gradually whisk in water until smooth.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or skillet over medium-high heat, reaching 350°F to 375°F.
- Dip each apple ring into the batter and carefully lower them into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Drain the cooked rings on a paper towel-lined plate and toss them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while still warm.
- Serve warm, optionally with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh. Can prep apple rings and batter in advance. Air fryer can be used for lighter cooking.
