Description

A simple DIY recipe for creating gel air fresheners that provide fresh scents for your home or car.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water (divided)
  • 1 packet (0.25 oz) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 tablespoon salt (prevents mold)
  • 2030 drops essential oil (your choice: lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, etc.)
  • Food coloring (optional, for color)
  • Small glass jars, mason jars, or decorative containers
  • Optional: Dried flowers, glitter, or herbs for a decorative touch

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to allow the gelatin to bloom.
  2. While the gelatin is blooming, heat the remaining 1/2 cup of water until it’s nearly boiling.
  3. Pour the hot water over the bloomed gelatin and stir until it is completely dissolved, ensuring there are no lumps.
  4. Stir in 1 tablespoon of salt to help preserve the gel mixture.
  5. Add 20–30 drops of your chosen essential oil to create your desired scent. If you’d like some color, add 1–2 drops of food coloring and mix well.
  6. Optionally, you can incorporate glitter, dried flowers, or herbs for added decorative flair.
  7. Carefully pour the mixture into your small jars or containers.
  8. Allow the mixture to cool and set at room temperature for several hours. For quicker results, you can place the containers in the fridge to speed up the setting process.
  9. Once set, place your gel air fresheners in bathrooms, closets, near sinks, or in your car. Replace them when the scent fades, which typically lasts 2–4 weeks, depending on humidity and the essential oils you’ve used.

Notes

  • Experiment with different combinations of essential oils to create unique scents that suit your preferences.
  • For a decorative touch, you can layer colored gel mixtures in the jars for a visually appealing gradient effect.
