Description
Create your own friendly phantom in a jar that glows softly, perfect for Halloween decoration.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear mason jar with lid (optional)
- 1 small piece of white cheesecloth or gauze
- 1 small styrofoam ball or cotton ball
- Black permanent marker or tiny googly eyes
- 1–2 battery-operated LED tea lights
- Twine, black ribbon, or lace
- Hot glue gun or clear craft glue
- Optional: glitter or glow-in-the-dark paint
Instructions
- Form the Ghost: Place the styrofoam or cotton ball in the center of the cheesecloth square. Gather the cloth beneath the ball and secure it tightly with a short piece of twine to form the ghost’s head.
- Create a Face: Use the black marker to draw simple, cute eyes and an ‘O’ or ‘wavy’ mouth on the ghost’s head. Alternatively, glue on small googly eyes for a playful look.
- Light It Up: Place the LED tea light(s) at the bottom of the clean, dry mason jar.
- Assemble the Scene: Carefully place your ghost inside the jar, allowing the cheesecloth to flow loosely around it to create a floating, ethereal effect.
- Add a Decorative Touch: Wrap a piece of twine, black ribbon, or lace around the neck of the jar and tie it in a bow or knot for a finished look.
- Optional Sparkle: For extra magic, lightly brush the cheesecloth with glow-in-the-dark paint or a subtle sprinkle of glitter.
- Display: Turn on the LED light, place the lid on if desired, and watch your gentle ghost glow!
Notes
- Fluff the cheesecloth after placing it in the jar for a fuller, more mysterious appearance.
- Use multiple jars to create a charming—and not too scary—ghostly display for your mantel or windowsill.
- Always use battery-operated LEDs (never real candles) for safe, worry-free glowing.
