Description
Create beautiful and colorful window art using glue and food coloring to make stunning suncatchers.
Ingredients
- White school glue (clear glue works best for crystal look)
- Plastic lid (from yogurt, margarine, etc.) or clear plastic sheet
- Food coloring or liquid watercolors
- Toothpicks or small brushes (for blending)
- Black glue (optional: made by mixing glue with black acrylic paint)
- Tape (to hold the lid or plastic in place)
- Scissors and hole punch (for trimming and hanging)
- String, ribbon, or suction cup hooks (for hanging)
Instructions
- Create your canvas: Tape a plastic lid or sheet to your work surface to prevent slipping.
- Outline (optional): If using black glue, draw an outline (like stained glass) first and let it dry completely for a bold border effect.
- Add glue: Fill the open spaces with clear glue. Pour slowly so it doesn’t overflow.
- Color & swirl: Add drops of food coloring or watercolor to the glue. Use a toothpick to swirl and blend colors.
- Let it dry: Set aside in a warm, dry place for 24–48 hours. The glue will dry clear and glossy.
- Remove & hang: Peel suncatcher from the lid or sheet, punch a hole, and hang in a sunny window!
Notes
- This project is suitable for all ages and can be a great craft activity with kids.
