Description

Deliciously juicy apples coated in sweet candy and white chocolate, decorated for the holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 small–medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
  • 6 pretzel rods (or wooden sticks)
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (120ml) light corn syrup
  • ½ cup (120ml) water
  • ½ tsp red gel food coloring (do NOT use liquid)
  • 8 oz (225g) white chocolate or white candy melts
  • 12 tsp coconut oil (optional, for smoother dipping)
  • Red sprinkles or crushed freeze-dried raspberries
  • Green chocolate candies (M&Ms, Sixlets, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Apples: Rinse apples well and remove wax (important so candy sticks): Dip apples 10 seconds in hot water + a splash of vinegar → dry fully. Insert pretzel rod firmly into each apple.
  2. Make the Candy Coating: In a deep saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium-high without stirring until boiling. Once boiling, add red gel food coloring. Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (149°C) (hard crack stage). Use a candy thermometer. Turn off heat.
  3. Dip: Tilt pot and dip apples, spinning to fully coat. Let excess drip off and place on parchment to set. They will harden in 5–8 minutes.
  4. Add the Snowcap: Melt white chocolate (microwave 20–30 seconds at a time). Stir in coconut oil if needed for smoother drizzle. Spoon or dip the top half of each apple to create the snowy drip.
  5. Decorate: While white chocolate is still wet: Sprinkle red popcorn-style sprinkles. Press on two green candies near the base of the pretzel (like ornaments 🎄). Let set.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping.
  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate temperature measurement.
  • Create fun variations by using different types of sprinkles or candies for decoration.
