Description
Magic Rainbow Ice is a colorful and engaging science activity that combines sensory exploration with fun. Kids will love creating vibrant ice blocks and experimenting with fizzy reactions!
Ingredients
Scale
- Large ice blocks (made in bowls, muffin tins, or silicone molds)
- 1/2–1 cup baking soda
- 1–2 cups white vinegar
- Food coloring or liquid watercolor (red, blue, yellow, etc.)
- Small droppers, pipettes, or squeeze bottles
- Shallow dish, sensory bin, or baking tray
- Optional: glitter, salt (for extra fizz), gloves, safety goggles
Instructions
- Freeze the Ice: Start by filling your muffin tins, bowls, or molds with water to create large ice blocks. For a fun twist, sprinkle a little baking soda into the water before freezing!
- Set the Scene: Once your ice blocks are ready, place them in a shallow tray. Don’t be shy—sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda on top and around the ice for extra fizz!
- Add Color: In small cups or squeeze bottles, mix your vinegar with different food coloring. Each cup will pack a colorful scientific punch!
- Let the Magic Begin: Use your droppers or squeeze bottles to drip the colored vinegar onto the baking soda-covered ice. Watch in delight as it fizzes, bubbles, and creates swirling rainbow effects!
- Get Creative: Sprinkle in some glitter or salt, or grab a spoon to dig and swirl around. Take a moment to observe how the ice melts and the colors beautifully blend together!
