Description

A fun and easy DIY project to create a glowing baking soda dancing ghost jar for Halloween.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 clear glass mason jar (pint size)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • Small tissue ghosts or cotton balls
  • 1 teaspoon glow-in-the-dark paint or ¼ cup tonic water
  • 1 LED tealight or mini blacklight
  • Optional: a sprinkle of fine glitter

Instructions

  1. Shape your ghosts using white tissue paper or cotton balls, crumpling or fluffing them to make them float better.
  2. Add glow-in-the-dark paint or tonic water to your ghosts, then let them dry for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Draw faces on your ghosts using a black marker.
  4. Fill the mason jar with warm water and baking soda, then add vinegar to activate the fizz.
  5. Drop the glowing ghosts into the jar and place an LED tealight or mini blacklight underneath or next to the jar for effect.

Notes

  • Prep jars ahead of time for kids.
  • Keep vinegar in a squeeze bottle for easy pouring.
  • Most materials cost under $10.
  • Turn off the main lights to see the glow effect better.
