Description

A fun science experiment that simulates a volcanic eruption using simple household ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small jar or clear plastic bottle
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • Optional: Food coloring
  • Optional: A few drops of dish soap

Instructions

  1. Place the jar on a tray to catch any spills.
  2. Add approximately 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottom of the jar.
  3. If desired, enhance with food coloring or a drop of dish soap.
  4. Slowly pour 1/4 cup of vinegar into the jar and watch the eruption begin!
  5. Observe and discuss the reaction that takes place.

Notes

  • You can use lemon juice or any other household acid instead of vinegar.
  • For a fizzier eruption, try using carbonated soda.
  • Adding dish soap will create a longer-lasting foam.
  • Incorporate glitter or eco-friendly confetti for added visual effect.
  • Warm vinegar can enhance the reaction.
