Description
Create your own fizzy Monster Lava Lamp with this fun and easy DIY project!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear jar or bottle (16–20 oz size)
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil (or baby oil)
- 1/3 cup warm water
- 8–10 drops food coloring (green, purple, or orange)
- 1 fizzing antacid tablet (like Alka-Seltzer), broken into pieces
- Googly eyes or tiny monster charms (optional for decoration)
- Funnel (for easy pouring)
- Tray or towel to keep the area clean
Instructions
- Start by gathering all your ingredients and materials to ensure you have everything ready.
- Take your clear jar or bottle and fill it about two-thirds full with vegetable oil.
- Using a funnel if needed, slowly pour in the warm water until you’re almost at the top of the jar. You should notice the water sinking beneath the oil.
- Add 8–10 drops of your chosen food coloring into the jar. Observe how the color spreads in the water.
- Break the fizzing antacid tablet into smaller pieces and drop one piece into the jar. Watch as colorful bubbles begin to rise and fall, creating the lava lamp effect.
- If you’d like, you can stick some googly eyes or add tiny monster charms for extra decoration.
- Whenever the bubbling action slows, drop in more pieces of the antacid tablet to revive the bubbling effect and enjoy your homemade Monster Lava Lamp!
Notes
- Experiment with different colors of food coloring to create unique effects!
- For a more prolonged bubbling experience, use additional pieces of the antacid tablet, but add them gradually.
