Description
Mozzarella Chicken in Basil Cream Sauce is a delicious and creamy dish featuring tender chicken breasts seared to perfection and served in a flavorful basil cream sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1½ teaspoons dried basil (or ¼ cup chopped fresh basil)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Start by patting the chicken breasts dry with paper towels, then season both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sear the chicken for about 5–6 minutes per side. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat, add butter, and then toss in the minced garlic. Stir for about a minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a gentle simmer, scraping up any golden bits. Stir in the heavy cream, and then add Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses until melted. Incorporate the basil.
- Nestle the seared chicken back into the skillet, coating with the sauce. Let simmer on low for about 10–12 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve the chicken hot with basil cream sauce over it, ideally with angel hair pasta or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh basil if available.
- This dish pairs well with pasta or starch to soak up the sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
