Description

A nostalgic and creamy dessert featuring layers of rich custard, ripe bananas, and vanilla wafers, topped with whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 2 ripe bananas

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, flour, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbling.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth. Gradually add half of the hot mixture to the yolks, whisking continuously.
  3. Return the egg mixture to the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes while stirring.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  6. In a large serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding. Repeat layers and finish with pudding on top.
  7. Top with whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Make ahead up to a day in advance for best flavor. Avoid overcooking the pudding to maintain creamy texture.
