Description
A fun and engaging activity for creating beautiful crystal formations using pipe cleaners and Borax solution.
Ingredients
- Pipe cleaners in assorted colors
- Borax powder
- Hot water
Instructions
- Begin by warming your water in the microwave until it’s hot but not boiling.
- Carefully pour the hot water into a glass dish.
- For every 2 cups of hot water, add in 1/4 cup of Borax powder.
- Stir the mixture well until the Borax powder is fully dissolved.
- Take the pipe cleaners and twist them into coil shapes, leaving some straight ends to hang from a chopstick or pencil.
- Place the chopstick or pencil over the dish, allowing the twisted pipe cleaners to dip into the solution.
- Ensure that the pipe cleaners are fully submerged in the solution and not touching the bottom of the dish.
- Leave the setup undisturbed in a stable area overnight.
- After about 24 hours, carefully remove the pipe cleaner crystals from the solution.
- Allow the crystals to dry out on paper towels for a few hours before displaying them.
Notes
- Try using different shapes or designs with the pipe cleaners to create unique crystal formations.
- Experiment with the amount of Borax or water to see how it affects crystal growth and size.
