Description

An indulgent lasagna with layers of tender noodles, savory ground beef, and rich marinara sauce, topped with gooey mozzarella and creamy ricotta.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 1 container (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil a large pot of salted water and cook your lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Meanwhile, in a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix together ricotta cheese and egg until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Start layering: Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer 1: Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  8. Layer 2: Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
  9. Layer 3: Sprinkle one-third of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta.
  10. Layer 4: Top with another third of the meat sauce.
  11. Repeat the layers, finishing with the last layer of noodles and the final meat sauce, then sprinkle remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  12. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese bubbles and turns golden brown.
  14. Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make ahead by preparing the lasagna a day in advance and refrigerating it. You can also add veggies for flavor enhancement.
