Description
Create mesmerizing calm with these Rainbow Thundercloud Splash Jars that mimic a passing storm and a beautiful rainbow.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear glass or plastic jar with a tight-sealing lid (8–16 oz)
- 1/2 cup shaving cream (the fluffy, white ‘thundercloud’)
- 1 cup water (creates the clear ‘sky’)
- Liquid food coloring in assorted rainbow colors
- 1/2 teaspoon glitter (optional, for lightning-like sparkle)
- 1 drop of dish soap (the secret to helping the ‘rain’ fall)
- 1 spoon or dropper for adding color
- Small bowls or cups for mixing colors
Instructions
- Prepare the Sky: Fill your jar about three-quarters full with water. This is your calm, clear sky before the storm.
- Form the Cloud: Gently spray or spoon the shaving cream on top of the water. Fluff it with the spoon to create a thick, cloud-like layer that sits on the water’s surface.
- Brew the Rainbow Rain: In your small bowls, mix a few drops of each food coloring with a teaspoon of water. Add a tiny drop of dish soap to each mixture for a magical effect.
- Make it Rain: Using a spoon or dropper, slowly add drops of your colored mixtures onto the surface of the shaving cream cloud. Watch as the colors begin to ‘rain’ down into the water.
- Add Lightning Sparkle: While the colors are raining down, sprinkle glitter on top of the cloud for a sparkling thunderstorm effect.
- Seal the Storm: Once your rainbow rain is beautifully falling, securely fasten the lid on the jar. Tip it gently to enjoy the display without spills.
Notes
- Patience is a Virtue: The magic happens slowly; wait for the color to seep through for the best effect.
- Create a Weather Pattern: Use cool colors for a stormy vibe or a full rainbow for a cheerful look.
- No-Mess Cleanup: When done, simply pour the contents out and rinse the jar to start again another day.
- Super Sensory: This activity is calming for children, helping focus attention and soothe emotions.
