Description

Deliciously soft and chewy red velvet cookies topped with a creamy Hershey’s Kiss.


Ingredients

  • 7 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp red gel food coloring
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar, for rolling
  • 18 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer or large bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until smooth and slightly fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red gel food coloring, then mix until fully combined and evenly colored.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then add to the wet ingredients and mix just until the dry ingredients disappear.
  5. Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, portion the dough into 18 equal pieces, roll into balls, then roll each ball in red sanding sugar and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  7. Immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie, then let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a more vibrant color, adjust the amount of red gel food coloring as desired.
  • Be careful not to overbake the cookies to keep them chewy.
