Description
Deliciously soft and chewy red velvet cookies topped with a creamy Hershey’s Kiss.
Ingredients
Scale
- 7 tbsp butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/4 tsp red gel food coloring
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup red sanding sugar, for rolling
- 18 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a stand mixer or large bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until smooth and slightly fluffy.
- Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red gel food coloring, then mix until fully combined and evenly colored.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then add to the wet ingredients and mix just until the dry ingredients disappear.
- Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, portion the dough into 18 equal pieces, roll into balls, then roll each ball in red sanding sugar and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie, then let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a more vibrant color, adjust the amount of red gel food coloring as desired.
- Be careful not to overbake the cookies to keep them chewy.
