Description
Get crafty and create lasting memories with your little ones using salt dough handprint ornaments!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt (non-iodized)
- 1 cup water
- Acrylic paint (for decorating the ornaments)
- Paintbrush (for applying paint)
- Ribbon or twine (for hanging the ornaments)
- Washable markers (for personalizing the ornaments)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the water, stirring until a dough begins to form. Adjust with more flour or water for the right consistency.
- Take the dough out of the bowl and knead it for about 5–10 minutes until it’s pliable.
- On a clean, flat surface sprinkled with flour, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thick.
- Gently press your child’s hand into the rolled dough to make a clear impression.
- Use a straw or skewer to poke a hole at the top of the ornament for the ribbon.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Place the ornaments on a baking sheet and bake for 2–3 hours, or until fully dried and hard.
- Once baked, let the ornaments cool completely.
- Kids can then paint and decorate them using washable markers or acrylic paints.
- Once the paint is dry, thread a piece of ribbon or twine through the hole and tie it in a loop for hanging.
Notes
- Ensure the dough is not too sticky. Adjust by adding more flour if needed.
- For best results, decorate the ornaments after they have completely cooled.
- Experiment with different shapes and sizes for unique designs.
