Description

These Soft Christmas Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth perfection — buttery, lightly sweet, and topped with festive icing! Perfect for holiday cookie exchanges, cozy family baking days, or leaving out for Santa.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • For the Icing:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring and sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, and almond extract, and mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, until a soft dough forms. If sticky, chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut into festive shapes and place on baking sheets. Bake for 6–8 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Let cookies cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Mix icing ingredients in a small bowl, tint with food coloring, and spread or pipe over cooled cookies. Add sprinkles for a cheerful holiday touch!

Notes

  • Chill cookie dough if it is too sticky to handle.
