Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- 4 tablespoons milk
- For the Icing:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring and sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, and almond extract, and mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, until a soft dough forms. If sticky, chill for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut into festive shapes and place on baking sheets. Bake for 6–8 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cookies cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Mix icing ingredients in a small bowl, tint with food coloring, and spread or pipe over cooled cookies. Add sprinkles for a cheerful holiday touch!
Notes
- Chill cookie dough if it is too sticky to handle.
