- About 35 saltine crackers (to cover a 10×15 inch jelly roll pan)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 14–16 oz milk chocolate melting wafers or chopped high-quality chocolate bars
- ½–¾ cup mini holiday M&Ms (red, green, white)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a jelly roll pan with foil or parchment. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer covering the bottom. (⏱ 5 minutes)
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and salt, stirring until it begins to bubble. Let boil without stirring for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and vanilla. Pour hot caramel over crackers and spread evenly. (⏱ 10 minutes)
- Bake for 5–6 minutes until caramel is bubbling. (⏱ 6 minutes)
- Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate over the hot caramel. Let sit 3–5 minutes until melted, then spread smooth with an offset spatula. (⏱ 5 minutes)
- While chocolate is warm, sprinkle mini M&Ms evenly over the top and gently press them in. (⏱ 2 minutes)
- Refrigerate for 2 hours or freeze for 30 minutes until fully set. Lift from pan and break into large pieces. (⏱ 2 hours)
