Irresistibly gooey Thick Caramel Christmas Crack made with a buttery cracker base, thick caramel, and rich chocolate topped with festive mini M&Ms, perfect for holiday gifting and snacking.


Ingredients

  • About 35 saltine crackers (to cover a 10×15 inch jelly roll pan)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1416 oz milk chocolate melting wafers or chopped high-quality chocolate bars
  • ½¾ cup mini holiday M&Ms (red, green, white)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a jelly roll pan with foil or parchment. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer covering the bottom. (⏱ 5 minutes)
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and salt, stirring until it begins to bubble. Let boil without stirring for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and vanilla. Pour hot caramel over crackers and spread evenly. (⏱ 10 minutes)
  3. Bake for 5–6 minutes until caramel is bubbling. (⏱ 6 minutes)
  4. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate over the hot caramel. Let sit 3–5 minutes until melted, then spread smooth with an offset spatula. (⏱ 5 minutes)
  5. While chocolate is warm, sprinkle mini M&Ms evenly over the top and gently press them in. (⏱ 2 minutes)
  6. Refrigerate for 2 hours or freeze for 30 minutes until fully set. Lift from pan and break into large pieces. (⏱ 2 hours)
