Description
Create colorful and fun bouncy balls at home using simple ingredients and tie-dye techniques.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon white school glue
- ½ teaspoon borax powder
- 2 tablespoons warm water
- Food coloring (multiple colors for tie-dye effect)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Small mixing bowls
- Craft sticks or spoons for mixing
- Optional: Disposable gloves (for mess-free kneading)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Space: Gather all your ingredients and cover your surface if needed.
- Make the Borax Solution: In one bowl, mix ½ tsp borax with 2 tbsp warm water. Stir until fully dissolved.
- Color the Glue: In another bowl, pour 1 tbsp glue and add a few drops of food coloring. Mix well.
- Add Cornstarch: Stir 1 tbsp cornstarch into the colored glue until well combined.
- Combine & Stir: Slowly pour the borax solution into the glue mixture, stirring constantly. The mixture will start to thicken and clump.
- Knead It!: When it’s too thick to stir, remove it and knead with your hands (gloves recommended). Keep kneading until it’s rubbery and not sticky.
- Create the Tie-Dye Effect: Make multiple glue mixtures in different colors. Swirl small pieces together before kneading to create cool, marbled tie-dye patterns.
- Form the Ball: Roll the mixture into a smooth ball shape.
- Let It Rest: Let your ball sit for 10–15 minutes to dry slightly.
- Play & Store: Enjoy bouncing your new ball! Store it in a sealed plastic bag to keep it from drying out.
Notes
- Using gloves can help keep your hands clean while kneading the mixture.
- Experiment with different color combinations for unique designs.
- Ensure that the stored balls are kept away from direct sunlight to maintain their texture.
