Description

Create a magical science-meets-art spectacle that captivates with underwater fireworks in a jar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large clear jar or vase (32oz)
  • 2 cups warm water (like bath temperature)
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1012 drops gel food coloring (rainbow colors!)
  • ¼ tsp edible luster dust (for extra sparkle)
  • Small bowl & fork
  • Paper towels (for easy cleanup)

Instructions

  1. Fill jar ⅔ with warm water. Set on protected surface.
  2. In bowl, whisk oil, food coloring, and luster dust.
  3. Slowly drizzle oil mixture over water’s surface. Wait 10 seconds… then enjoy the burst of colors!
  4. Swirl gently to blend colors, or restart with fresh water for a new show.

Notes

  • For dramatic slow-falling streaks, use ice-cold water.
  • For ethereal effects, swap food dye for liquid watercolors.
  • Film in slo-mo with a flashlight underneath for impressive footage.
