Description
Create magical glow-in-the-dark fireflies using toilet paper rolls and paint for a fun craft activity.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pieces Cardboard toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls cut in half)
- 1 bottle Black or dark-colored paint (washable)
- 1 bottle Yellow or green glow-in-the-dark paint
- 1 set Paintbrushes
- 1 pair Craft scissors (Adult supervision recommended)
- 1 sheet Black construction paper (for wings)
- 1 pack Googly eyes (various sizes)
- 1 unit Hot glue gun (for adult use)
- Optional: Glitter, stickers, and other embellishments
Instructions
- Lay down a plastic tray or old newspaper to catch any paint drips and gather all materials.
- Using the black paint, let kids paint the cardboard rolls. One coat should suffice; allow it to dry for about 30 minutes.
- Once the black paint is dry, use the glow-in-the-dark paint to add whimsical patterns or dots to the body of the fireflies.
- While the paint is drying, cut out wing shapes from the black construction paper to attach to the fireflies.
- Once the body and glow paint are dry, use the hot glue gun (with adult assistance) to attach the wings to the back of each firefly.
- Glue googly eyes onto the front of the rolls to give them personality, and add extra stickers or glitter if desired.
- Set the completed fireflies aside to dry overnight, ensuring they are ready for play the next day.
Notes
- Ensure adult supervision during the use of scissors and hot glue gun.
- Consider using different colors for glow-in-the-dark paint for a variety of fireflies.
- Encourage children to get creative by adding their own unique designs and embellishments.
