Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar for dusting
- Optional cinnamon sugar coating
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Make the Dough: Add the eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until you form a soft dough.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and allow it to rise in a warm area until it doubles in size—around 60 minutes.
- Roll Out: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters to cut out the donuts.
- Rest: Place the cut-out donuts on a floured baking sheet. Allow them to rest for 30 minutes, covering them lightly with a towel.
- Prepare Filling: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until smooth and fluffy.
- Heat Oil: In a deep pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F.
- Fry the Donuts: Carefully fry the donuts in the hot oil, 2-3 at a time, until they turn golden brown on each side—about 2-3 minutes.
- Cool and Fill: Let the donuts cool slightly on a wire rack before filling. Using a piping bag, fill each donut with the delightful cheesecake filling.
- Dust and Serve: Finally, roll each filled donut in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar, and serve warm!
Notes
Make-Ahead: The dough can be prepared the night before and refrigerated overnight for convenience. Use plant-based alternatives for a different twist.
