Description

A luscious layered cake with creamy custard and vibrant strawberries, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vanilla custard (prepared)
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy – about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before the next addition.
  4. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, stirring gently to combine.
  5. Mix together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to your wet ingredients, folding until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan. Patience is key; let it cool fully to prevent the custard from melting.
  8. Once cooled, slice the cake horizontally in half. Spread a generous layer of vanilla custard on the bottom half.
  9. Layer the sliced strawberries over the custard, distributing them evenly.
  10. Replace the top half of the cake gently, then add more custard and strawberries on top.
  11. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream, allowing guests to customize their slices.

Notes

Make the vanilla custard a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator.
