Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs

  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan by greasing it well.
  3. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  4. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Incorporate the orange zest, lemon zest, orange juice, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  7. Combine the dry ingredients in batches, alternating with the buttermilk.
  8. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 28 to 34 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  11. Make the frosting by beating the cream cheese until smooth, then mixing in the powdered sugar and heavy cream.
  12. Frost the cooled cake and garnish with orange zest.
