Description

A nostalgic cake that combines the flavors of orange and cream for a delightful treat, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for buttercream)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice (for buttercream)
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest (for buttercream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for buttercream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract, orange juice, and zest.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  7. Make the buttercream while the cakes cool; beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix in orange juice, zest, and vanilla.
  8. Assemble the cake by spreading buttercream between the cooled layers and on top.
  9. Decorate with additional orange zest before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. For a richer frosting option, consider adding cream cheese.
